FELASA Severity Workshop
Delivered on the first day of the LASA 2025 Annual Conference

Details

When? Monday 17 November 2025, 09:30 to 12:00
Where? West Midlands

FELASA Severity Workshop

Since 2016, FELASA has offered workshops on severity classification in Europe to ensure that colleagues are well informed and trained to effectively classify severity both prospectively (e.g. for license applications) and for each animal at the end of procedures (actual severity) according to the Severity Assessment Framework and as set out in the Directive, both of which are embedded into UK legislation via A(SP)A. This is to ensure that prospective classification in project design and evaluation on the use of animals in procedures, and the information on the actual severity in the statistical reporting of the procedures is aligned across the UK and Europe.
Thousands of delegates have already followed one or more ‘FELASA Severity Workshops'. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to promote the consistent use of the severity classification framework with optimal refinement of all procedures.

These workshops will offer delegates information and hands on training to harmonise severity classification and additionally, will be an essential aid to comply with the Severity Assessment Framework as regulated in both A(SP)A and the EU Directive.
